“Losar, or Tibetan New Year, is the most widely celebrated of all Tibetan festivals. It is a time to celebrate and renew. Happy Losar to all!” — Mingyur Rinpoche

Lama Trinley will explain the meaning and significance of Losar and lead us in the practice of Nectar of the Path, followed by a short Tsok ritual feast offering composed by Mingyur Rinpoche. He will also explain the meaning and benefits of the Tsok practice.

Everyone is invited to bring food and drink to participate in the practice as we share wishes for the world and celebrate the beginning of the Tibetan New Year.

WHAT IS LOSAR?

Losar is the Tibetan New Year, and one of the most important festivals in the Tibetan Buddhist calendar. Typically celebrated for three days, the festival culminates on the 3rd day of the 1st Tibetan month, which falls on February 21 this year. Losar also marks the beginning of the “month of miracles,” a time when Buddha uncharacteristically displayed his power by performing a number of miracles. It is believed that the effects of one's actions during this time are multiplied by tens of thousands, so it is often accompanied by increased efforts to practice virtue and engage in spiritual activities.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM?

  • A talk on the meaning and significance of Losar
  • An explanation of the Tsok ritual feast
  • An opportunity to practice the Nectar of the Path and Tsok liturgies together, composed by Mingyur Rinpoche
  • Participation in the Tsok ritual feast offering
  • Sharing wishes for the world
